This was a very good opportunity to learn about Miso paste. The wonderful ladies guided me through the process step by step while I worked hands on to produce the miso paste. Explaining different elements and pointers as we went along. The result is I have a jar of miso paste to mature and use in the future. They also provided me with the opportunity to taste three different types of miso paste to understand the differences. And of course a miso soup to sample the end result. They also provided the opportunity to taste a range of Ama-zake – a range of rice drinks with different flavours. A very worthwhile few hours giving a deeper understanding of Japanese cooking and culture with hands on support.

This tour was the highlight of our time in Kyoto! Akari was a great and knowledgeable guide and the maiko, Mi-chan, was quite friendly and a great performer. She was also a good sport, answering all 1,000 of our questions. The food was also delicious. 10/10, would definitely recommend this experience!

This was a very good tour to understand the Gion district and the Gei-ko or Geisha community. Our guide brought us around various points of interest and explained the relevance of each one as well as providing a valuable insight into the history and purpose of the Geiko. She also guided us through the dinner and understanding of the two dances performed by the Maiko (trainee Gei-ko). What was special was the opportunity to ask the Maiko questions and hear her answers. Our guide did an excellent job of interpretation for us to make this happen. It was really valuable to meet the Maiko as a person and hear about her motivation and what is important for her. A very enjoyable and educational evening.

My husband and I had an incredible time learning to make sushi with Saeko! Saeko welcomed us into her home and kitchen, where we learned all about the different ingredients in miso soup, sushi, and tofu, and then we got to make (and eat) each! We would love to take another class by Saeko. Very highly recommend this class as part of your visit to Japan! 🌸
