Experience Details

You'll find maki sushi in many supermarkets and restaurants across Japan, but even so, these classic sushi rolls remain a staple of Japanese home cooking, and for good reason. Flavorful and versatile, they are healthy and simple to make — with the right tips and tricks. In this experience, a local host and certified food coordinator will teach you how to roll maki like a pro and share invaluable tips for Japanese home cooking. You'll then enjoy your sushi lunch with tea and dessert at her cozy home kitchen.

You'll meet one of your hosts at the designated meeting point before heading to the kitchen studio in Shinagawa. Here, she will introduce the flow of the lesson and share the recipes before you get hands-on making your tasty rolls. From cooking the rice to filling, rolling and cutting the maki, you'll learn to make this classic recipe step-by-step guided by Miyuki. To complete your meal, you’ll also prepare some side dishes: miso soup, tamagoyaki rolled omelet and green beans with sesame seed dressing.

After cooking, you'll enjoy lunch together and deepen your understanding of Japanese culture as your host will share insights on Japanese table manners and etiquette. Once you've finished eating, you'll enjoy tea and a seasonal Japanese dessert to end your experience on a sweet note.
