Experience Details
A seaweed cone filled with freshly made rice and an assortment of colorful toppings, temaki is a popular type of sushi for several reasons. For one, there’s the convenience of it — you eat it with your hand, without the need for chopsticks, for which it’s known as “fast” or “street sushi.” But also, there’s its uniqueness: you can fully customize each temaki to pack it with bursting flavors, and its crispy seaweed on the outside makes for a great first bite.
In this experience, you’ll be welcomed into the home of a friendly Tokyoite for a temaki sushi home party. Guided by Miyuki, your host, you’ll first prepare the ingredients, including fresh fish, vegetables and tamagoyaki rolled omelet, a sweet and fluffy staple of Japanese home cooking that makes a great temaki topping. Once all components are ready, you’ll assemble your temaki rolls and prepare miso soup and green beans with sesame seed dressing as a side dish.
Once the delicious smell of your home-cooked meal fills the air, it’ll be time to dig into your lunch. During this time, your host will share insights on Japanese culture, including table manners and etiquette tips. Afterward, you’ll enjoy a seasonal dessert with regular tea or matcha.
