Learn the ins and outs of sushi-making in this beginner-friendly cooking class near Matsuyamachi Station in Osaka. You’ll learn how to prepare, roll and cut makizushi, vibrant and colorful rolls filled with two kinds of sashimi, tamagoyaki (Japanese-style rolled omelet) and crunchy cucumber. You’ll complement your sushi with a steamy bowl of miso soup — a staple in Japanese cuisine — and a healthy vegetable side dish.
This experience takes place at a renovated townhouse in Osaka with over 90 years of history. Its renovated interior has been restored and modernized, preserving its original essence. As you step into the wide, wooden kitchen, your welcoming hosts will first give you an overview of the class and the ingredients before you start cooking. You’ll cook sushi rice using a traditional clay pot, learn to handle sashimi, roll tamagoyaki omelet, and prepare miso soup by making dashi (broth) from scratch.
Once the cooking is finished, you’ll share your delicious meal in the whimsical interior of the townhouse. During this time, enjoy interacting with your host and ask any questions you may have about Japanese cooking, food culture and traditions.
Before the experience ends, you’ll receive a cute souvenir to remember the day by — a pair of wooden chopsticks with origami and mizuhiki decoration holders.
