Experience Details
In a culture dominated by seafood, it can be tricky to find vegan food in Japan. Fortunately, vegan cuisine is on the rise in major cities like Tokyo, and thanks to the versatility of Japanese cuisine, it’s also easy to make classic Japanese recipes vegan-friendly, as you’ll discover in this vegan cooking class.
You’ll join host and vegan aficionado Amita in her lovely home in Tokyo’s Asakusabashi district. Amita is a seasoned home cook with over 25 years of experience living in Japan. She specializes in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, mastering a variety of dishes from Indian, Mexican, and traditional Japanese cuisines.
After being welcomed into her home and settled in, you’ll make a bowl of vegan ramen and gyoza. Long considered the soul food of Japan, this wheat noodle dish comes packed with flavor and a heaping of toppings. No ramen meal is complete without a dish of crispy gyoza next to it. These pan-fried dumplings are usually filled with a mix of vegetables and meat or seafood and dipped in soy sauce, but are easy to customize to your dietary preference. With Amita’s expertise, you’ll master these vegan recipes and pick up some Japanese table etiquette along the way.
After class, chow down on your meal with Amita and receive a special souvenir and a recipe PDF to recreate these dishes at home.
