A treat for all the senses, temari sushi, often hailed as Japan’s cutest sushi, are small rice balls with intricate and colorful toppings. If you’d like to try your hand at making these creative and delicious sushi balls, this class led by local cooking instructor Miyuki is for you.
After meeting one of your hosts, you’ll head to the studio nearby. Here, you’ll learn about Japanese ingredients, seasonings and cooking techniques during your hands-on sushi-making session. First, you'll make side dishes: miso soup, dashimaki omelet and a side dish of green beans with a sesame seed dressing. Then, you'll assemble your sushi and decorate it with colorful toppings.
Next, you’ll sit down at the table to enjoy your meal. Miyuki will fill you in on Japanese table manners and other cultural insights so that you can deepen your understanding of Japanese culture. After enjoying your meal, refresh with matcha green tea (or regular tea, if you’d prefer) and a seasonal Japanese dessert before wrapping up your session and taking home a few new recipes.
Miyuki is a certified food coordinator who holds several food-related certifications. A friendly and approachable instructor, she organizes hundreds of classes every year for visitors and locals alike.
