We had a wonderful time cooking Wagyu Beef and other dishes under the guidance of our culinary instructor Chef Shohei-san in his creative studio. If you want to learn how to cook restaurant quality food at home, this is the best way to go. It was also a great tourist adventure for foreigners in Osaka. We got all our many questions answered about cooking and the culinary culture of Japan in general. And we ended our lesson with a hearty multi-course meal, so come hungry for knowledge and food experience. A wonderful experience, highly recommended for tourists.

This is a must do workshop for any home cook who wants to be able to produce Kyoto Sushi for their family and friends. It is easier to make than the Tokyo sushi which is more widely known. I attended this Kyoto Sushi Making workshop lead by Mitsuru, the third generation chef running the restaurant. He explained a little of the history of sushi and in particular the differences between Kyoto and Tokyo in terms of sushi style. He also showed the technique for sharpening the sushi knife as it cannot be sharpened by a knife sharpener like western knives. An important difference is also the vinegar used and he explained about the two types and how they are made. Then he took me step by step through making Kyoto Sushi getting me to follow his example and do it for myself. Some elements like the rice and the diced shitake mushrooms he had already prepared. He guided me to an end result that looked surprisingly okay for a first attempt. The proof was in the eating and it tasted very good. It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile two hours. Mitsuru is clear in his explanations and uses visuals to help understanding. He also gives many pointers from his experience of running a very successful sushi restaurant.

A great class cooking - ramen and gyoza. It was like being with friends, talking, chopping, preparing, cooking, and most importantly, eating the afternoon away. We prepared 2 ramen - one traditional with the lightest broth and the second with chicken and soy milk, a delicious surprise. Can’t wait to make it at home for my friends. And our gyoza weren’t too bad either. We highly recommend any one of the classes offered, you won’t be disappointed.
