Experience Details

A scenic nature walk followed by an okonomiyaki home cooking class? Pure magic, in our opinion. Meet your host, Tomokita-san, for a tranquil walk through a beautiful green area in Setagaya. Following this, make your way to a home cooking studio for an okonomiyaki masterclass.

Nature Walk:

Embarking on this adventure begins with a rendezvous at Todoroki Station, where you'll meet your host. From there, you'll embark on a tranquil journey into a beautiful green area. Tomikita-san used to take guests to the Todoroki Valley, a verdant oasis that boasts lush foliage, majestic bamboo groves, hidden shrines, and meandering riverbanks. Since the valley is temporarily closed, she now opts for another nature walk through beautiful Japanese gardens in the area.

Okonomiyaki Cooking Class:

Upon concluding your outdoor exploration, you'll make your way to Tomokita-san's cozy home cooking studio. Her cooking class is informative, fun, easy to follow, and welcomes chefs of all skill levels.

Following a warm welcome and class introduction, it's time to unleash your inner chef! You'll embark on the journey of creating authentic Japanese okonomiyaki from scratch. Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) is made from a pancake-style batter mixed with ingredients like cabbage, meat or seafood cooked on a hotplate. The dish's name is a nod to its customizable nature, meaning “as you like it” in Japanese. Post-hotplate, it can be topped with scallions, savory sauce, seaweed, bonito flakes, mayo, and beyond.

Once you’ve conquered the hotplate, plate up your okonomiyaki and tuck in! Your homemade okonomiyaki will be accompanied by seasonal veg side dishes using homegrown ingredients, dessert (including matcha jelly, matcha ice cream, matcha cake, and more), and drinks (homemade umeshu).
