This was a very interesting tour. Our guide showed us the more gritty, spicy side of Osaka, explaining a lot about Japanese culture along the way as well. It was well paced, with a few stops for a bite to eat and a bathroom break. The optional meal at the end was a delicious way to end our trek. I highly recommend this excursion!

This painting session was so fun! If you have no experience with visual arts, don’t worry — neither did I, and I was able to follow along without any issues! Our class painted an image of Tokyo Tower sunset, which doubles as a perfect little souvenir. Very much recommend doing this with a friend, but I also see this experience as equally enjoyable if I had joined alone.

Mum and I went along to this experience. It was a good blend of informative and interactive. Mochi was both fun to make and yummy to eat! And it was great to learn how to drink matcha ceremonially. We had a great time and would recommend!

Ramen and Gyoza Cooking Class in Osaka

This experience was truly exceptional. To begin with, Akito checked in with us several times before the tour to make aure we were prepared and our preferences vis a vis lunch. He greeted us warmly, then drove us to a tea farm just outside of town with stunning views of the city and mountains. After explaining tea cultivation and an al fresco tea tasting, we visited the factory where the tea was processed. There we were educated on the steps involved and shown the elaborate machinery used to do it (which was fascinating even though it was not in use that day). Then we went to lunch, where we were given succulent tuna along with various interesting side dishes. Then we walked to a tea house specializing in single origin teas from Shizuoka and beyond. There the shop attendant served us several different types of tea, all of them distinct from each other in very interesting ways. Then we strolled through the main shopping area, stopping at a shop specializing in matcha, which had delicious gelato in seven different strengths of matcha. Then we walked back to our starting point. Throughout the tour Akito shared his vast knowledge of tea, his love for his hometown of Shizuoka. He was keen to answer any questions we had about tea or other topics, and also was curious about how we were experiencing Japan and who we were in general. Overall, it was a glorious whirlwind introduction to the world of tea and Shizuoka in general. Akito clearly loves doing this, and we greatly appreciated.
