Experience Details
A visit to Japan isn't complete without trying the country’s traditional breakfast staples: the onigiri (Japanese rice balls) and miso soup. People of all ages enjoy these items — students pack them into cute bento boxes, and employees devour them after work. And what better way to make your trip even more memorable than by savoring these comfort foods you made yourself?
This one-day cooking class in Osaka is a charming introduction to Japanese breakfast, led by a cafe owner and seasoned cook whose culinary passion was sparked by childhood memories of making onigiri with her mother. You'll learn to make onigiri, as well as miso soup and dashimaki — a savory omelet made with egg and dashi stock. The dishes follow the host’s original recipes for an authentic experience and true home-cooked flavor. You'll receive insider tips and practice shaping the rice balls, just as her mother once taught her. As a bonus, you’ll even get a special booklet allowing you to recreate the recipes at home.
The experience unfolds in a cozy private kitchen located in Namba, Osaka’s high-paced but exuberant shopping district. Despite the lively surroundings, the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the class creates a homey escape. Make sure to come hungry — each participant will enjoy two delicious onigiri!
