Experience Details

Katsuura Port in Wakayama Prefecture is renowned for its large tuna catches as well as its usage of sustainable fishing techniques dating back to the mid-1800s. From the early morning, tuna line the floors of the market as prospective buyers make their selection. Unlike in many other places, the tuna here is sold fresh rather than frozen, allowing you to fully savor its rich and deep flavors.

You’ll also get a glimpse into the lives of those keeping the port running and learn about the Hae-Nawa fishing method and how it affects the sustainability and quality of tuna.
