Experience Details
Takoyaki is one of Osaka’s staple street foods. Wheat-based batter is filled with bits of octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger and green onion — these are just the base ingredients, but if you’re making them yourself, you may be able to throw in a few extra ingredients. Takoyaki is said to have originated from a street vendor in Osaka, who was inspired by akashiyaki, a small dumpling made from an egg-rich batter and octopus. Today, it’s usually thought of as a street food or festival food, though you can find takoyaki in grocery stores and convenience stores. But when in Osaka, do as Osakans would, take it a step further by making takoyaki yourself!
A resident chef will lead you through the entire experience, instructing you on how to prepare the ingredients, combine them and then cook the takoyaki on a special grill. Adults and children alike are both welcome to embark on this local culinary adventure.
