Located about five minutes on foot from the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Takaki Tokaichi is a charming confectionery shop with a history spanning over a century. This beloved establishment is dedicated to the art of wagashi (traditional Japanese confectioneries) and offers visitors an immersive experience to explore traditional Japanese tea culture.


Experience Flow:

- Arrive at Takaki Tokaichi and select your seasonal sweet of choice


- Enjoy a guided tour of an authentic tea room used in local tea ceremonies. Your host will explain the flow of a Japanese tea ceremony before you engage in a casual table-style tea ceremony experience and have the opportunity to whisk your own matcha. Throughout the experience, your host will share captivating stories about the significance of ceremonial culture, the shop's reconstruction after the atomic bomb, and the historical importance of the samurai tea ceremony


- Following the tea ceremony, you will be treated to a boxed lunch featuring seasonal ingredients, including an assortment of simmered dishes and the rare and symbolic akahan, a traditional red rice dish typically reserved for celebratory occasions


- Your experience will finish with some time for shopping. Explore an array of Japanese sweets guided by a local expert who will answer any questions you may have about Japanese confectioneries

  • Meet your host on the 2nd floor of Okashi Dokoro Takaki Tokaichi Main Store in Hiroshima, about a 5-minute walk from the Atomic Bomb Dome. More detailed information and a Google Maps link will be provided upon booking.

  • If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please specify so at the time of booking.

  • Guests are required to remove their shoes to participate in the tea ceremony. Being barefoot is not allowed, so please bring socks.
