Amazing experience. Tomoko is a very talented chef, and she taught us to make some of the most delicious and fluffy Japanese pancakes I have ever seen.Even though the activity is not supposed to take more than 1.5 hours, she spent about 3 hours with us, and allowed us to try a couple of times and she also prepared additional japanese desserts for us, and provided us the recipes. You can tell she really enjoys cooking and teaching people. All in all, it was well worth the money and I encourage anybody who wants to learn how to make authentic japanese pancakes to try this experiance.

I had an incredible time at this cooking class! The chef was so friendly and gave clear, easy-to-follow explanations, making it fun to cook authentic Japanese dishes myself. The recipes felt like genuine home cooking, and the English translation of the entire cooking class was perfect. The experience was both enjoyable and educational—highly recommend for anyone who loves food or Japanese culture!

Japanese Home Cooking Class in Tokyo (Onigiri & Tamagoyaki)
Cooking Classes
This was a fun and interactive presentation of two of Japan's favorite comfort foods, onigiri and tamagoyaki. Admittedly, I'm not the greatest cook, but with their expert guides I was able to make easy and delicious snacks. I'm confident that with the recipe sheet provided and the right ingredients I could make these at home in the U.S. Participants were encouraged to do all the preparation themselves and with an expert translation we were able to copy the Japanese chef's instructions easily. It was a really nice experience. I would highly recommend.

The food was really yummy. It was easy to cook. We shared the experience with five other people so it was okay. I just wished that we had at least one more (side) dish with more seasonal ingredients or used vegetables and fish.

Discover Authentic Japanese Home Cooking

If you're a food enthusiast seeking an authentic taste of Japan, then Japanese home cooking is a must-try experience. Unlike restaurant fare, Japanese home cooking—known as "uchi no gohan"—offers a more personalized and comforting culinary journey. It's all about simplicity, fresh ingredients, and a deep respect for the natural flavors that make these meals special. Whether you're a seasoned chef or just a curious beginner, delving into Japanese home cooking will enrich your understanding of this versatile and delicious cuisine.

What Makes Japanese Home Cooking Unique?

Japanese home cooking is not just about sushi and ramen; it’s a celebration of harmony and balance. The dishes are often straightforward, using only a few ingredients that people can easily find anywhere in the world. One of the key features of Japanese home cuisine is "washoku," which means traditional Japanese food. It's recognized by UNESCO and is characterized by a diet rich in fish, rice, vegetables, and fermented foods like miso and soy sauce. This style of cooking emphasizes seasonal ingredients and attentive preparation methods that allow natural flavors to shine. A typical home-cooked meal might include carefully prepared dishes such as miso soup, simmered vegetables, grilled fish, and a bowl of rice, complemented by pickles and soya bean sprouts as side dishes.

Learn Japanese Home Cooking with Local Experts

Partaking in Japanese home cooking food experiences gives you the invaluable opportunity to learn from local experts. These experiences often take place in a homely setting, offering you a genuine slice of Japanese life. Hosts might teach you the secret behind a perfectly fluffed rice bowl or how to make miso soup from scratch. They can guide you through creating dishes like nikujaga (a beef and potato stew) or tamagoyaki (a rolled omelette). By the end of these experiences, you'll not only leave with a full stomach but also armed with recipes and techniques that can bring Japan into your home kitchen. Moreover, sharing the stories and traditions behind each recipe makes the cooking session more than just about food—it becomes a cultural exchange.

Whether you're looking to improve your culinary skills or simply wish to enjoy a hearty meal that reflects the heart of Japanese culture, these Japanese home cooking food experiences cater to all levels of interest and expertise. So, why not embark on a culinary adventure to explore the art of Japanese home cooking today?
