Experience Details
Juicy grilled chicken brushed with a rich, tangy glaze seems simple enough, but there are endless recipes and serving options when it comes to teriyaki chicken. Leave it to Midori, an expert foodie and culinary researcher, to teach you how to make an ultimate teriyaki chicken meal complete with side dishes using authentic Japanese ingredients in this special private lesson.
You will meet Midori in her kitchen, which is only 10 minutes by train from Kyoto Station. She will welcome you with fresh tea and introduce the flow of the class, walking you through the ingredients and seasonings to be used, some of which you will get to taste, like dashi, a soup stock used extensively in Japanese cuisine before you get hands-on cooking your meal.
This class can be adapted for several dietary restrictions, with options for gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, halal-friendly and pescatarian diets. Atsuage (deep-fried tofu) will be used instead of chicken for meatless options, and other ingredients will also be replaced depending on the case, so please inform your host of your dietary restrictions or food allergies upon booking.
You will cook a meal consisting of teriyaki chicken or deep-fried tofu, miso soup and onigiri rice balls (typically filled with grilled salmon, tuna mayonnaise, or similar fillings). Midori will prepare a vegetable side dish to complete the meal. While you cook, Midori will share expert insights and advice to elevate your Japanese cooking skills to the next level!
Midori has taught Japanese cuisine for almost a decade as a friendly host and culinary researcher. Having lived in Singapore, she specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine and loves to connect with visitors worldwide and share her love for food. Apart from cooking, her other passion is keeping up with the latest travel trends in Kyoto, so feel free to ask her for suggestions of things to do, see, and eat to make the most of your time in Japan’s old capital.
