Ramen is loved worldwide: a mix of slippery, chewy noodles, a savory, rich broth, and delicious toppings have made Japan’s quintessential noodle soup a globe-trotting favorite. But for many, arranging a bowl by themselves can seem daunting. How to make the perfect bowl that tastes as good as in the restaurants?
Not to worry, your host’s home kitchen in Ikebukuro welcomes ramen lovers of all skill levels to discover the simple pleasure of making your own ramen. Easy-to-use ingredients will be prepared and premade noodles will be used to ease the ramen-making process so you can focus on the hard part: slurping the piping hot noodles without making a mess!
A bowl of ramen is pretty lonely without something to eat it with, so this class will also cover another Japanese favorite: handmade gyoza! Guests will learn to fill and seal delicious gyoza dumplings and fry them to a crisp as they do at the best izakaya Japanese bars.
Your host, Chef Odaira, has more than ten years of experience working at a Kappo restaurant as a chef and later decided to start teaching cooking lessons to share the joy of cooking. He holds cooking classes for people with disabilities and works to support their independence.
This class is not just about cooking, but you'll also learn many interesting cultural insights, like the significance of dashi in Japanese cuisine and how to use it. An English-speaking guide will ensure communication with the chef throughout the class.
You'll learn how to make both dishes, arrange them to your liking, and dig in! Your helpful instructor will demo the procedure to follow along and pass out copies of the recipes to take home. This is the perfect chance to make some ramen memories, learn something new, and enjoy a delicious homemade lunch made by you!
