Kawahara
Exciting kaiseki which colors outside the lines — you’ll not know quite what to expect in each dish.
Restaurant Details
This relative newcomer on the Osaka scene gained quick attention due to the owner-chef’s willingness to break the mold of traditional kaiseki dining. Set in an old traditional terraced townhouse with a modern interior, Kawahara never fails to surprise.
The meal follows the format of traditional Kyoto-style dining, but every dish has a surprising twist thrown in. Sashimi is served with ginger and scallions in the wasabi, and squid tentacles are deep-fried before being added to a soy rice pot.
Even if you’ve had 1000 kaiseki meals before, you need to give Kawahara a try. A dinner here will prove that you haven’t seen everything yet!
