Honkogetsu
If you’re looking for a historic taste of Japan in Osaka, Honkogetsu is the place to go.
Restaurant Details
As much culture is in the bowls and plates at this Osaka kaiseki as in any museum or temple in Japan. A sense of history radiates around the place, in part coming from the 600 year old wood which forms the countertop.
The flow of the dishes follows the procedures of tea ceremony, as does the layout of the interior. Although there’s a strong sense of history in each of the classic Japanese dishes — from golden dashi-broth stews to grilled seafood — none of it feels outdated. Instead, there’s a feeling of timeless class to it all.
The flavors themselves are delicate, in keeping with the tastes of lovers of Japanese traditional dining, but with deep levels which unfold slowly throughout the meal. Each of the seasonal dishes has a seasonally themed bowl or plate to match; the crowning touch on one of the most aesthetic and enjoyable dining experiences in town.
