Experience Details
This home cooking class in Osaka is about diving into both Japanese culture and cuisine. Under the guidance of a highly trained English-speaking instructor, you’ll make a home-style wagyu roast beef bowl and chicken nanban (fried chicken served with tartar sauce) entirely from scratch.
The first recipe you will learn to master is a Japanese-style wagyu beef bowl known as gyudon. Luxurious wagyu beef is known for its tenderness and marbling, and in this cooking class, you’ll understand how to best prepare it for delicious results every time. With the help of your instructor, you’ll marinate and cook thinly sliced roast beef before serving it over fluffy, perfectly cooked rice.
Next, your instructors will teach you about chicken nanban. This traditional Japanese soul food from Miyazaki is made by battering and deep frying chicken, which is then dipped in a sweet vinegar known as amazu. The fried chicken is eaten with a Japanese-style tartar sauce for a sweet, sour and savory taste experience. Since it first originated in the 1950s, this chicken dish is now a household staple enjoyed across Japan.
Once the cooking is complete, you’ll enjoy your handmade dishes alongside sashimi and seasonal sides. After this class, you can recreate this tasty meal back home and bring back a taste of Japan to share with family and friends.
The class will be led by an expert cooking instructor with experience in the dining industry. This cook is eager to share their culture with guests in the kitchen through the recipes and cooking techniques passed down for generations, with a strong focus on seasonal ingredients. You'll also have the opportunity to listen to traditional Japanese folk songs, performed by your host on the shamisen.
