Experience Details
Dubbed "Osaka's Times Square," Dotonbori district is teeming with excitement, glittering neon lights, countless entertainment options… and fresh sushi! In this sushi-making class right by Dotonbori River, perhaps one of Osaka's most scenic spots, you'll learn how to make 12 pieces of nigiri and gunkan sushi guided by friendly and skilled sushi chefs.
Upon arrival, you'll change into sushi chef attire and get a brief explanation of the flow of the class from your host. To achieve great sushi, its two components must be expertly prepared: shari (sushi rice) and neta (toppings). Therefore, you'll start by learning how to prepare the vinegared rice, clump it, and shape it into rice balls to make onigiri. Afterward, your host will explain how to add the toppings to complete your nigiri. You can also add wasabi if you'd like!
Now comes the challenge — shaping sushi by hand. It might seem daunting at first, but your hosts will demonstrate a long-tested way to shape nigiri, and, after you're done, you'll assemble your gunkan rolls to complete the set.
Once your sushi assortment is complete, it'll be time to sit down and enjoy your freshly made meal with your host. By the end of the day, besides having mastered the basics of sushi-making, you'll take home a cute souvenir and a certificate of completion to commemorate your sushi-making efforts.
