This Osaka shop offers the luxury of picking the type of pork meat for your bowl of tonkatsu.

Restaurant Details

It is said that Manger in Osaka is one of the best places — if not the best — in all of Japan to get tonkatsu. Expect a two to three hour wait before you can even catch a glimpse of the inside of the restaurant. Manger offers a wide range of pork, from Kurobuta to Spanish Iberico, all listed on a chalkboard above the chef. Their fried-to-perfection tonkatsu technique that brings out the juiciness of the meat — the main factor in why people are willing to wait in line for so long.

A good way to make full use of the waiting time is to write your name down and then go off for a few hours before coming back when it's your turn. Manger only has counter seating — ideal for a local Japanese dining experience — and a chic modern interior which is a cut above the usual run down tonkatsu holes-in-the-wall .

While their classic tonkatsu is already amazing, the foie gras stuffed tonkatsu comes highly recommended. Crispy on the outside and juicy with a hint of pink on the inside, there's nothing like the deliciousness of Manger's deep-fried pork.
