Shichubo Yung
East meets West at this innovative Chinese restaurant in Tokyo, where Cantonese classics are reinvented.
Restaurant Details
“One-of-a-kind” is an overused phrase, however it certainly fits the bill for this Shirokanedai restaurant, due to the difficulty in defining exactly what kind of place it is. Ostensibly Chinese, the restaurant also offers some fusion dishes which are difficult to put a finger on, yet utterly delicious.
Take for example the beef cheek stew with red wine and vegetables, or the awabi liver in black bean sauce — dishes neither Japanese, nor Chinese, nor French: rather a novel combination of all three. The jazz soundtrack and non-traditional exterior also set a strange tone for a Chinese restaurant, but one which proves to be quite extraordinary.
Fans of more delicate cuisine will be happy to know that the chefs at Shichubo Yung use less oil than in typical Chinese cooking, resulting in lighter versions of some Cantonese classics.
Thanks to the French part of the trinity of influences, a great range of wines and champagnes is also available to complete the dining experience at one of the best and most innovative Chinese restaurants in Japan.
