La Famille Morinaga
The seamless fusion of French cuisine and Kyoto essence is a unique one that creates a burst of unique flavors with each bite.
Restaurant Details
The name of the restaurant is inspired by the Troisgros Family in France. La Famille Morinaga translates from French to “Morinaga Family,” with the hopes that the cuisine of this restaurant will continue to serve families for generations. This machiya, a traditional wooden townhouse, has almost a century’s worth of history. Recently renovated, it is now with a refined and modern interior while still having preserved the rich culture.
The cuisine at La Famille Morinaga combines the Japanese seasonal ingredients and Kyoto preparation techniques to create French-style course meals. The owner-chef has trained in France and Switzerland, bringing back the knowledge of Western cuisine to apply to his own creations. Every day is a different omakase course menu as the chef himself procures the fresh components each morning.
Be prepared for these French dishes to tingle all your tastebuds. One significant dish consists of a trio of seafood — scallops with caviar, crab in yuzu jelly, and sea bream sashimi with a side of pickled Kyoto vegetables — that come together perfectly to create an array of flavors. Similarly, all the La Famille Morinaga dishes are just as exquisite.
