Kaikaya by the Sea
A top Shibuya seafood store where you can try authentic Japanese seafood cuisine, as well as Japanese fish in Western styles.
Restaurant Details
The owner of this Shibuya seafood restaurant has a real affinity for the sea, as an avid surfer and chef for decades. He opened this shop in 1985, and it has remained a fixture of the neighborhood ever since. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the wall art of a mermaid riding a fish outside.
The dishes exhibit both Japanese and Western influence, with the menu featuring dishes like grilled fish with garlic, olive oil, and lemon, bringing a Mediterranean streak. Japan is represented by staple favorites such as sashimi, and mixed shrimp and pork dumplings.
All of the fish is sourced directly from fishermen. Cutting out the middleman keeps the fish as fresh as possible, and prices reasonable. Your seafood-averse friends will be happy to hear that Kaikaya by the Sea also serves non-seafood dishes like teriyaki chicken and beef steak.
