Experience Details

You’ll find distinct sushi in every area of Japan, from Tokyo’s Edomae to Osaka’s pressed oshizushi, and Yamanashi is no exception. Glazed with a generous coating of sweet soy sauce, Koshu-style sushi is packed with flavor and tradition. This sushi-making and sake-tasting provides the rare chance to make and enjoy this signature sushi from Yamanashi Prefecture, which is hard to find in the bigger cities.

Sip on a welcome drink (sake, tea or juice) as you learn about the history and culture of Yamanashi-style sushi from your host, who will explain what makes it so unique. Then, you’ll change into sushi-making attire and get hands-on making nigiri and gunkan rolls! The chef will demonstrate how to make each and guide you through each step. Once your 10-piece sushi meal is finished, you’ll enjoy it paired with four types of sake from various regions of Japan, each with its own characteristics and flavor profile. These sake varieties are specifically chosen to complement your sushi meal and elevate the flavors and textures of the seasonal ingredients.
