Experience Details
Japanese soba is traditionally made using buckwheat flour, a highly nutritious grain that contains many health benefits, including the improvement of heart and gut health.
Modern soba has been a popular dish in Japan since the Edo Period (1603–1868). Back in the day, traveling soba vendors used to carry portable soba stalls around and satisfy the late-night cravings of the people of Edo (now Tokyo) after restaurants closed down. Soba noodles were usually enjoyed alongside other Edo dishes and generous amounts of sake. Although soba is no longer a nocturnal dish, not much else has changed. Many still love to enjoy late-night soba noodles alongside generous amounts of sake, but it has also become a popular lunchtime meal for the busy working people of Japan.
Your host has a hearty love for eating and making soba and loves to share their passion with others. During this cooking class specially designed for soba lovers, you will learn about its history and cultural significance, how to make soba noodles and even how to make soba sushi (yes, you read that right), a hybrid sushi and soba creation that’s beloved by many travelers visit Osaka.
