Experience Details
Traditional Japanese wagashi sweets are known for being visually striking, but few are as eye-catching as nerikiri. Soft and moist, nerikiri are molded by hand into bite-sized, colorful pieces with delicate motifs, usually inspired by nature and highlighting the passing of the seasons. With no overpowering flavors or overbearing sweetness, nerikiri are well-balanced and have a pleasant, smooth texture.
In this hands-on class in a private home in a quiet suburb of Yokohama, you’ll learn the basics of the nerikiri-making process with an experienced instructor. From making the dough with white bean flour and mochi powder, among other ingredients, to shaping each piece into a seasonal motif, you’ll master the art of making nerikiri and enjoy your sweet confections the traditional way, with a bowl of steaming tea, either matcha green tea or another variety.
