With willowing trees and historical townhouses, only a few minutes on foot from the city’s iconic Kiyomizudera Temple, Ninenzaka is a wonderful place to experience ancient Kyoto and also discover how its traditions are kept alive today.
Another powerful symbol of Japan, sushi originated in the 8th century as a form of preserving fish and, over centuries, adopted vinegar into its recipe, changing with the times into the raw fish and vinegared rice combination that we know of today. One of Japan’s most famous dishes, sushi is also incredibly versatile, changing depending on the seasons and adopting almost endless styles and variations. -Make sushi! Your instructor will demonstrate how to roll futomaki, and you’ll follow his guidance. You’ll also learn slicing and presentation techniques.
