Sasagin
This izakaya near Yoyogi Park is the perfect place to learn about Japan’s delicious native alcohols, with fantastic prices all round.
Restaurant Details
This intimate izakaya is located in Yoyogi-Uehara, a chic residential neighborhood just northwest of Shibuya. It’s the area’s foremost shrine to great sake, with a great range including unpasteurized and lightly-sparkling varieties. When picking your next glass, you’ll have support available from the English-speaking sommelier owner, and English-language menus if you want to go it alone. You’ll leave an expert in all things sake yourself (so long as you don’t get too drunk to remember what you learned!).
This great drinks menu is backed up by a range of delicious small izakaya dishes — such as grilled seafood, sashimi, and tempura — prepared with such quality that they could quite easily look at home on the counter of a high-class kappo restaurant.
Sasagin is listed as Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide, signifying great value for money. Head on down to try some well-priced glasses and plates for yourself — you’re sure to learn a thing or two about Japan’s most famous, most delicious alcohol.
