Sakagawa
Treat yourself to a fun and friendly culinary show at this traditional restaurant right in the heart of Kyoto’s sightseeing center.
Restaurant Details
Located in the historic Gion district of Kyoto, this restaurant sets itself apart from its neighbors with its friendly staff and energetic kitchen.
In true kappo style, this place has a more lively atmosphere than the usual Gion kaiseki restaurants. While you wait between dishes, amuse yourself by watching the hustle and bustle of the chef and his three assistants buzzing around each other in energetic synchronization.
Between the four of them and the hostess, they have enough English ability to make you feel very welcome and give you some basic explanations of each dish. These will include fresh sashimi, grilled fish with yuzu citrus sauce, seasonal soups, wagyu beef, and charcoal grilled shellfish.
A la carte ordering is available, which is rare for a Gion restaurant, meaning that when you find the one dish that’s perfect for you, it’s possible to keep it coming over and over.
