Izakaya Tokitame
Well-positioned for pre or post-dinner drinks, Izakaya Tokitame is run by a couple who whips up pub grubs from around the world.
Restaurant Details
Sitting on the quiet side street by Fukushima Station, Osaka, Izakaya Tokitame may no longer be a secret address, but it’s the kind of place that still retains a faithful local clientele and an easy disposition. Regulars love this tiny space, where the kitchen is manned by a couple, sumptuous Kyoto-style cuisine is only an order away and drinks are a good companion.
Izakaya Tokitame’s charm is that its dishes will appeal to just about everyone: various sashimi cuts are served on a pile of ice, Chinese-style crab spring rolls are creative and Western-inspired nibbles like macaroni salad will draw even the most picky eaters. And then there are classic Japanese pub grubs, like the chicken nanban and char-grilled edamame that goes well with the draft beer, served on a regular pint glass or a mug. A smart move would be to order the beef sinew hotpot during the colder weather.
The place is brimming with customers and walk-ins are nearly impossible even on a Tuesday night — always a sign of a good locale, but plan your reservations ahead.
Izakaya Tokitame is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant for 2024.
