Ankyu
Get an education in fine Kyoto dining at one of the city’s most friendly kappo restaurants.
Restaurant Details
Ankyu is located on the eastern bank of Kyoto’s Kamo River, on the peripheries of the historic Gion entertainment district. This high-quality kappo restaurant is run by a friendly chef who is always eager to chat about his ingredients and the culture behind his style of cooking.
This is the real benefit of kappo dining over kaiseki: the interactions between customer and chef. Good conversation isn’t the only reason to book a seat here, though. At the six seat counter they also provide some of the most delicious Kyo-ryori cuisine you’re ever likely to try.
There are some fun and interesting dishes on offer, like white sea bream with a lotus root bun, alongside hearty meat dishes like roast duck from Niigata.
