I recently had the pleasure of attending a wagashi class with Yukiko Uramoto, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, Yukiko welcomed us with a warm and bright smile to her cozy home, with her dining room and kitchen serving as the perfect classroom setting. As Vegans, we were particularly impressed by how thoughtfully Yukiko adapted the ingredients, ensuring that we could fully enjoy every aspect of the class. Yukiko’s passion for Japanese culture and food was evident throughout, and she patiently guided us through each step with care and enthusiasm. We learned how to make several traditional wagashi, including the Hanami Dango, Fruits Daifuku, Warabi Mochi, and Ice Cream Mochi. By the end of the class, we were treated to a delightful tasting session, when Yukiko served us green tea and a special Isobe Mochi, which was a delicious and unexpected treat. Overall, it was a 5/5 experience. Highly recommended for Vegans, and anyone interested in learning more about Japanese sweets and culture!

Mochi Making Class in Yokohama: Make Japanese Sweets
Cooking Classes
Our instructor was welcoming, inspiring, and very attentive! She offered different options to enjoy this delicious and cultural sweet. Yukiko Uramoto explained to us how to make mochi and its significance. The way to knead the Hanami Dango, roll it, mix it to achieve the desired color, and place it in water until it floats. The Warabi Mochi made in the copper pan brought back memories of my grandmother, the mochi ice cream bit was very considered to include vegans by not using milk and eggs in the ice cream. We also tasted a delicious Mochi rolled up in seaweed, a delicious dish to start the day! I highly recommend this experience to everyone! Thank you so much.

It was a wonderful experience to learn a bit more about Japanese tradition. Yukiko Uramoto welcomed us into her home and was very kind and attentive. During class, explained to us the meaning of mochi and how important it is to make it in January (for good luck throughout the year). For Girls' and Boys' Day, to wish them health and prosperity. We learned how to make Hanami Dango, Warabi Mochi, Mochi Ice Cream, Fruit Daifuku, and Mochi with Nori. In the end, we tasted everything, and it was all delicious. I highly recommend this experience to everyone who wants to learn about Wagashi. Thank you so much.

Mochi Making Class in Yokohama: Make Japanese Sweets

I really loved the class. First of all the instructions for getting there were very detailed and easy to follow. The place is in a beautiful neighborhood, 2 minutes walk from the bus station. The teacher is very warm and friendly. She explained the process step by step and we made 4 creative and beautiful wagashi. At the end I drank matcha while she explained to me different facts about the culture of green tea in Japan and other sweets served alongside it. I will never forget this experience.

Thank you Manami, you are so warm, kind, and funny! Manami was so welcoming, she invited us into her place as friends, not just as a customer. She and her husband made an effort to make us feel at home throughout the whole experience. The sushi making was so cool and actually it tasted so good, much better than I had expected it to be. Also, the Kimonos we got to try were so beautiful, I am glad that I finally got to try it. I will definitely come back again next year!

Discover Gluten-Free Dining in Kanagawa

Kanagawa, a vibrant prefecture in Japan, not only boasts stunning landscapes and cultural landmarks but also offers an exciting array of gluten-free dining options. Whether you have dietary restrictions or simply prefer to eat gluten-free, exploring the culinary landscape of Kanagawa promises a delightful experience. From traditional Japanese dishes with a gluten-free twist to international cuisine that meets dietary needs, you're sure to find something that tantalizes your taste buds without compromising on health.

Traditional Flavors with a Gluten-Free Twist

Japanese cuisine is renowned for its fresh ingredients and delicate flavors, and Kanagawa is no exception. Here, you can enjoy a variety of traditional Japanese dishes modified to be gluten-free. Many establishments are becoming increasingly aware of dietary restrictions, offering gluten-free versions of popular dishes such as sushi, sashimi, and tempura. In addition, miso soup and rice dishes can often be found in gluten-free variations, allowing you to savor authentic Japanese tastes while adhering to your dietary requirements.

One of the remarkable aspects of dining in Kanagawa is the focus on seasonal and local produce. This ensures that every meal not only supports local farmers but is also fresh and flavorful, making it a real feast for both the eyes and the palate. By selecting menu options carefully and asking the friendly staff for recommendations, you can indulge in the integrity of Japanese cuisine without worry.

Global Gluten-Free Gourmet Options

Although Japanese dishes are a significant attraction, Kanagawa’s food scene is diverse. You can find a range of international restaurants, from Italian to Indian, offering gluten-free menu options. For pizza lovers, gluten-free crusts make it possible to enjoy this Italian favorite, paired often with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Likewise, pasta dishes can be prepared using gluten-free options so that everyone can enjoy a hearty meal.

Indian cuisine, known for its rich spices and flavors, can also be a great choice for those following a gluten-free diet. Dishes such as curry, often served with rice instead of naan or wheat-based bread, provide a satisfying and aromatic meal. Don’t forget to check out vegan and vegetarian options, which often align with gluten-free needs as well, offering a broader choice for diners.

Combining these experiences with the serene beauty of Kanagawa, such as a view of the iconic Mount Fuji or a stroll along the coast, can make your gluten-free dining journey truly memorable. The prefecture’s commitment to accommodating dietary needs ensures you don't have to compromise on taste or ambiance.
