Experience Details
You’ve likely had mochi sweets before, but do you know how to make them? These treats were traditionally pounded by hand and served fresh in various celebrations. While mochi’s soft, chewy texture has earned this sweet worldwide culinary fame, few know what goes into making delicious mochi — and this class uncovers all the secrets you need to know to become a pro at mochi-making.
In this engaging class, you will enhance your culinary skills and learn to make two different kinds of mochi: three-colored dango (skewered dango dumplings typically associated with flower viewing in the spring) and fruit daifuku (a soft mochi filled with juicy fruit). During this hands-on experience, your host will guide you step-by-step in your efforts, teaching you tips and tricks to make delicious sweets the traditional way. After the mochi-making efforts, you will enjoy your sweets with green tea.
And if you want to try even more kinds of mochi, you can book an extended version of the class in which your host will demonstrate how to make mochi ice cream, warabi mochi and you'll get to taste savory isobe mochi.
Your knowledgeable host, a certified instructor, is eager to share with you not just the art of making delicious sweets, but also the rich Japanese traditions that underpin the craft of mochi-making.
