Join Shoran, a certified Master Shodo Instructor, for a calligraphy lesson of a different kind. Put brush to paper with an original matcha calligraphy lesson, the only one of its kind in Japan! You’ll learn about the history, key techniques, then participate in a calligraphy class in Shizuoka (just an eight-minute walk from the station).

She's a certified Master Shodo Instructor and Handwriting Appraiser, with a BA in Business. After a career as a Cabin Attendant for ANA, she now offers calligraphy classes, creates shodo art, and performs globally, leaving a lasting impact on her students and clients. Shoran's journey is a testament to her dedication to preserving and sharing the beauty of Japanese calligraphy.
Japanese calligraphy (shodo) is a revered art form rooted in traditional Chinese characters, typically created with calligraphy ink (sumi or sumi-e ink) traditionally made from soot, often obtained from burnt pine wood. Today, your brush will make strokes of a different color and kind… Join Shoran for Japan’s only matcha calligraphy class! Shoran founded and trademarked this unique branch of calligraphy, making this experience one of a kind. You’ll learn about the history of matcha calligraphy, key techniques, watch a demonstration, and then put brush to paper as your lesson begins. Following this, you’ll create a hanging scroll and participate in a photo opportunity with your artwork.
