Experience Details
Located between glitzy Roppongi and bustling Shibuya, Nishi-Azabu is an understated gem packed with gourmet eateries and elegant boutiques. Here, only a few minutes from Omotesando Station, this experience promises to challenge your misconceptions about sake and show you just how versatile, refreshing and even surprising Japan’s national drink can be.
A rice wine made by polishing and fermenting rice, sake is a popular drink poured on many celebratory occasions. Its unique brewing method results in a complex flavor profile that can be dry, fruity, bitter or floral. In this comprehensive guided tasting, your hosts will teach you to discern these nuances and savor sake to the last drop.
Leading this experience will be Hiromi Yamaguchi, a food and table coordinator, dashi sommelier and sake navigator who enjoys learning about world cultures through food and drink. Ms. Yamaguchi will guide you through discovering the fascinating world of sake!
First, you’ll learn what sake is, how it is made, and the different types made across Japan, by watching explanatory videos and slides on a large screen. Next, your hosts will teach you the traditional way to pour sake respectfully and then guide you in tasting several varieties, experimenting with different temperatures and drinking vessels, followed by an expert pairing of premium caviar.
The host leading this experience is committed to bringing the essence of Japanese cuisine to visitors. By the time the sake class has finished, you can sample any sake and appreciate its subtleties. Guests will also receive a unique souvenir — a bottle of sake and 30g of premium caviar — to continue enjoying this flavorful pairing after the experience ends.
