Sumibikappo Shirosaka
One of the most exciting Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants in Tokyo, with a wild and inventive menu to keep you guessing.
Restaurant Details
Sumibikappo Shirosaka is a kappo restaurant with a free and exciting style — chasing flavor with tradition as a tool, rather than worshipping the past.
Hideki Ii grew up around great food as his family ran a Chinese restaurant. In his own career, he’s found success in Australia, America, and Japan. He draws upon this experience to create an inventive kaiseki style meal, with Western ingredients and contemporary presentations. Caviar tartare, for example, never features on your standard traditional Japanese menu.
The menu shifts every fortnight to keep pace with the changing of the seasons, so you’ll never know exactly what you’re in for until it’s plated up in front of you. If you still don’t know what it is at that point, don’t be afraid to ask — all of the staff here speak English!
Chef Ii is a licensed sommelier, so there are some great drink pairings to go along with the meal too. As you probably guessed, some of them totally defy convention, like sparkling sake with wasabi which froths it up with a foamy head!
Reservations are absolutely essential for this innovative restaurant, so be sure to get yours in early.
