Shibuya Morimoto
This is Japanese local dining at its most authentic — grab a seat among merry locals and enjoy delicious yakitori grilled dishes.
Restaurant Details
Right round the corner from Shibuya station, this classic Yakitori shop could not be any more accessible. It’s been in that same spot, serving up delicious chicken skewers, since 1952! Shibuya Morimoto has gathered loads of long-time regulars over the years, with some of them coming religiously since the 70s or 80s.
This is the real yakitori restaurant experience, unchanged by trends or time. That means good quality meat, tightly-packed diners, and alcohol flowing liberally. You can expect to enjoy some conversation with locals, as a lot of Japanese people are happy to try out their English after a few beers.
Thankfully the menus also make a good stab at English too (even if it’s a little broken), listing every part of the bird you can name and more. Duck and vegetable dishes are also on offer alongside the standard chicken choices.
For an authentic local experience, munching on great Japanese comfort food, book a spot at this long-running Shibuya institution.
