Genyadana Hamadaya
Genuine historic kaiseki in genuine historic surroundings — this luxury 2022 Michelin-starred restaurant is a rare gem.
Restaurant Details
Genyadana Hamadaya has been in operation since 1912, but the building it occupies is steeped in history which goes back much further than that. It used to be the official residence of the doctor to the Tokugawa clan, and is an example of the fascinating, interlocking style of sukiya architecture. It’s an exquisite traditional setting for an exquisite traditional meal. Guests can enjoy private rooms which look out over the gardens.
The meal follows the format of orthodox kaiseki, beginning with the hassun seasonal platter. Theirs is presented in a deep red and gold lacquerware box in the shape of a gourd. The meal which follows is packed full of a series of premium ingredients. Delicious conger eel, wagyu beef, and tuna dishes are some of the highlights.
There’s no escaping the fact that Genyadana Hamadaya is pricey, but a meal here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to treasure forever.
