Ginza Saisho
Restaurant in Tokyo
Quaint restaurant set over a plateau. The arrival experience was fantastic and their cocktails were very good! The staff tried their best to explain each course, however there was some lost in translation moments. Overall the food was good. Amuse bouche were 2 cornets (burdock and carrot) and a burdock consommé, the burdock cornet was fantastic, highlighting the ingredient, whereas the rest lacked flavour of the supposed ingredient. The royale consommé was one of the highlights with depth in flavour and textural contrasts. The nabe course was creamy and another highlight. When bread was served, there was homemade smoked butter, a little salt would have gone a long way. The main course was good, but to be expected with Yamato beef, would be hard to screw that up. Another highlight was the orange sorbet with marscapone and a candy crisp made from orange leaves. Refreshing and the orange leaves gave a surprising flavour. I’d love to have a bag of that candy. The last course was okay which was a cake, the pistachio oil was a nice touch. I’d be interested to go back in the spring or summer.
