Experience Details
Learn how to cook like a local during this immersive Tsukiji Market experience! This sushi and tempura cooking class with Tsukiji Market tour begins with an opportunity to explore Tsukiji Outer Market with the guidance of your friendly host. She is a trained Japanese chef as well as a sake sommelier. During this experience, you will explore the outer part of Tsukiji Fish Market, and then make fresh sushi using sashimi purchased there.
You will convene at Tsukiji Market in the morning, and be greeted warmly by your English-speaking host. Here, you can learn in-depth about Tsukiji Market as Tokyo’s original wholesaler for quality fish and produce, now still with many specialty food shops and some of the best seafood in Tokyo brought in from Toyosu Market. You can learn about seasonal ingredients, exotic produce, and essential components of Japanese cuisine during this immersive half-day session. Guided by your host, you’ll explore knife shops, pottery stores and kitchen utensil shops, and enjoy shopping for souvenirs. During this hour-long tour, you will also purchase fresh ingredients to cook your sushi lunch.
Then, you will head to a private home cooking studio, a 20-minute taxi ride away, and step into your welcoming host’s Japanese home. With beautiful Japanese decor and a calm atmosphere, you will feel like you are cooking at a local friend’s home!
Jumping into the cooking session, you will watch some demonstrations as well as getting involved in the kitchen. You will make “temari” balls of sushi, crunchy tempura, and traditional Japanese side dishes for lunch. With handy tips and tricks, you will truly feel like a local cooking with expert guidance from your host. After cooking, you will sit down together to enjoy your fresh feast with specially-chosen sake. You will also learn about Japanese table manners, and enjoy green tea and sweets to follow.

Experience Location
The early-morning bustle and the spectacle of seeing whole fish expertly carved right before your eyes, combined with an array of local delicacies, make Tsukiji Market a must-visit in Tokyo. While the Tsukiji Fish Market’s auction was relocated to Toyosu in October 2018, many of Tsukiji Outer Market’s street vendors and restaurants remained. Some shops and restaurants have been in business for over 100 years! And since the seafood sold at Tsukiji Market is delivered directly from Toyosu Fish Market, Tsukiji Market is still one of the best places in Tokyo for fresh seafood.
