West from the capital city of Fukuoka lies Itoshima, a serene peninsula with blue beaches, local breweries, and world-class ramen. Public transportation in the area is less frequent than in the cities, so it remains relatively undiscovered by tourists. In this tour of Itoshima, a local guide will take you by car to the area's main attractions, like a romantic white torii gate on the beach and the pristine Shiraito Falls. You'll also indulge in a bowl of its world-famous Ichiran ramen and visit a local beer and sake brewery!
You might be familiar with Ichiran, a famous ramen brand of Fukuoka. The first stop on this tour will be where Ichiran crafts its renowned tonkotsu ramen: the Ichiran no Mori factory and restaurant. Here, you will try ramen and learn about its production process.
After a yummy ramen lunch, you'll venture into the natural marvels of Itoshima, like the spectacular Sakurai Futamigaura, an ethereal white torii gate on the beach overlooking two giant rocks in the water. Meoto Iwa, known as the wedded rocks, are joined by a Shinto rope called shimenawa and are associated with marriage, for which the place is now a symbol of marital happiness.
Lastly, you’ll also enjoy sake tastings at Suginoya, a sake and beer brewery with over 150 years of history, which crafts sake with local ingredients. Before wrapping up, you'll also explore the Shiraito Falls, which look stunning in every season, and the Raizan Sennyoji Daihioin Temple.
