Experience Details
Join Maya Aley, an American shochu specialist who has been living in Kagoshima for over 9 years, for an online tour of a shochu distillery in Kagoshima! In a live broadcast hosted on Zoom, she will take you on a walkthrough of the distillery, explaining each step of how to make shochu.
Your guide, Maya is the perfect knowledgeable guide to initiate you into the deep world of shochu. She is the only native English speaker to be certified as “Shochu Meister” by the Kagoshima Prefecture Shochu Maker’s Guild through Kagoshima University. She also carries certifications in shochu from both the SSI in Japan and the SSA in America, and works at a shochu bar in Kagoshima City.
During the virtual tour, you will also be joined by a shochu craftsman so you can gain insights straight from the master distiller. Another Shochu Meister, Yoshie, will also attend as a moderator to offer support during the tour.
To close the tour, guests will enjoy a drink together. Maya will teach you how to drink shochu at home, so make sure to have your bottle of shochu, soda, and water handy; along with a juice of your choice!
