A new kind of watering hole has emerged a block away from Shibuya’s iconic scramble crossing, breaking away from the traditional narrative of alcohol-fueled revelry. Enter SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA, where the art of mixology meets the mindful drinker's palate and promises an unforgettable experience for both teetotalers and cocktail enthusiasts alike. Alongside its sister establishment, THE 5th by SUMADORI-BAR, they aim to redefine Tokyo’s and Japan's bar scene.

A refreshing concept

Located on the pedestrian traffic-heavy Center-Gai, the recently revamped SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA has been reimagined as an inviting open space where patrons can indulge in a spectrum of libations without the pressure of time constraints. Embracing the ethos of the Asahi Breweries "Smart Drinking" concept — Sumadori’s name is an amalgamation of the phrase — SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA aims to create a culture where individuals can enjoy beverages tailored to their preferences, whether they choose to imbibe or abstain. There are over 150 drink choices available with 0%, 0.5%, and 3% alcohol content.

In a world where social gatherings often revolve around alcoholic beverages, SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA stands out as a sanctuary for those who choose not to imbibe or simply want to enjoy a night out without the effects of alcohol. Here, the concept of "drink or no drink" fades away as guests are welcomed into a space designed to cater to every palate and preference.

Step into SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA, and you'll be greeted by a kaleidoscope of options. The restaurant boasts a selection of over 150 low- and non-alcoholic beverages. Guests can choose from beverages with alcohol content ranging from 0% to 3%, ensuring everyone finds their ideal flavor profile. From meticulously crafted cocktails to domestic and imported bottle offerings, there's something for every taste bud to savor.

The venue’s counter bar concept on the first floor is open and airy, making it easy to drop in for a quick drink — day or night. Customers can connect over drinks from different regions in Japan and six countries worldwide, including rare items unavailable elsewhere. Tipples such as non-alcoholic absinthe from Yokohama, non-alcoholic sake from Kanazawa, and bottled cocktails such as Cosmopolitan Sour and Gin Teanic offer new takes on old favorites. Whether seeking a unique souvenir or an elusive beverage, SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA invites all to savor the experience of mindful indulgence together.

SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA extends its allure to its second floor, offering a relaxed dining space with sleek design and Center-Gai views. Here, patrons can savor Asian-inspired delicacies alongside the diverse drink menu, curated by a food coordinator to complement the low and non-alcoholic options. From starters to dim sum, fried and grilled foods, steamed buns and desserts, each dish harmonizes with the innovative drink selections, including the Instagram-worthy Marbling Snow cocktail and the refreshing peach beer.

Whether enjoying a lunch plate or indulging in the afternoon tea set, guests can customize their experience with mix-and-match options and signature cocktails, embracing the concept of so-called “sober pairing” for a holistic gastronomic journey.

As patrons experiment with the bar’s selection, those with more sophisticated expectations can move up to the building’s fifth floor, which hosts THE 5th by SUMADORI-BAR, a bar that opened in September 2023. Much like the lower floors, this establishment focuses on drinks boasting non- or low alcohol content, meticulously crafted by bartenders well-versed in the world of non-alcoholic mixology.

The venue promises over 20 drink selections — several of them seasonal — paired with a complementary food menu. Those seeking Japanese flavors in any season should try the Zazen, a cold-brew gyokuro green tea-based concoction, or the Matcha Azuki Colada, a creamy and sweet tipple topped with gold leaf.

Customers have two ways to order from the extensive drink menu: they can connect with THE 5th SUMADORI-BAR on LINE and order from their smartphone, or they can wave to the bartender from their counter seat and ask for their recommendations.

Customers can receive the latest information and news via LINE before, during, and after their visit. While you don’t need to connect on LINE to enter and sample THE 5th by SUMADORI-BAR’s refreshing menu, it can enrich your experience of this low-alcohol haven.
