I recently had the pleasure of attending a wagashi class with Yukiko Uramoto, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, Yukiko welcomed us with a warm and bright smile to her cozy home, with her dining room and kitchen serving as the perfect classroom setting. As Vegans, we were particularly impressed by how thoughtfully Yukiko adapted the ingredients, ensuring that we could fully enjoy every aspect of the class. Yukiko’s passion for Japanese culture and food was evident throughout, and she patiently guided us through each step with care and enthusiasm. We learned how to make several traditional wagashi, including the Hanami Dango, Fruits Daifuku, Warabi Mochi, and Ice Cream Mochi. By the end of the class, we were treated to a delightful tasting session, when Yukiko served us green tea and a special Isobe Mochi, which was a delicious and unexpected treat. Overall, it was a 5/5 experience. Highly recommended for Vegans, and anyone interested in learning more about Japanese sweets and culture!

Mochi Making Class in Yokohama: Make Japanese Sweets
Cooking Classes
Our instructor was welcoming, inspiring, and very attentive! She offered different options to enjoy this delicious and cultural sweet. Yukiko Uramoto explained to us how to make mochi and its significance. The way to knead the Hanami Dango, roll it, mix it to achieve the desired color, and place it in water until it floats. The Warabi Mochi made in the copper pan brought back memories of my grandmother, the mochi ice cream bit was very considered to include vegans by not using milk and eggs in the ice cream. We also tasted a delicious Mochi rolled up in seaweed, a delicious dish to start the day! I highly recommend this experience to everyone! Thank you so much.

Mochi Making Class in Yokohama: Make Japanese Sweets
Cooking Classes
It was a wonderful experience to learn a bit more about Japanese tradition. Yukiko Uramoto welcomed us into her home and was very kind and attentive. During class, explained to us the meaning of mochi and how important it is to make it in January (for good luck throughout the year). For Girls' and Boys' Day, to wish them health and prosperity. We learned how to make Hanami Dango, Warabi Mochi, Mochi Ice Cream, Fruit Daifuku, and Mochi with Nori. In the end, we tasted everything, and it was all delicious. I highly recommend this experience to everyone who wants to learn about Wagashi. Thank you so much.

Mochi Making Class in Yokohama: Make Japanese Sweets

I really loved the class. First of all the instructions for getting there were very detailed and easy to follow. The place is in a beautiful neighborhood, 2 minutes walk from the bus station. The teacher is very warm and friendly. She explained the process step by step and we made 4 creative and beautiful wagashi. At the end I drank matcha while she explained to me different facts about the culture of green tea in Japan and other sweets served alongside it. I will never forget this experience.

Japanese Sweets Class in Yokohama: Make Nerikiri Wagashi
Cooking Classes
This was a wonderful experience with Yoko, she was very welcoming and organised it allowed us to feel very comfortable as soon as we walked in! Yoko instructed us well in how to cook a variety of dishes for a bento box. The demonstrations were very helpful allowing us to try it ourselves and learn how it is done. I am very glad I chose Yoko's cooking class, it was a beautiful area and we got to enjoy eating our lovely bento boxes overlooking the shore.
