Atsu guided our group of five into the market, welcoming us with smiling warmth and introducing us to new foods in several restaurants. Atsu explained the menu for the tour, and everything we tried was delicious. We especially appreciated his conversation about the Nishiki market’s history, and that he showed us the traditions in the shrines and temples. Atsu gave us recommendations of his favorite places, besides the places we visited during the tour. Atsu’s English was very good, and we enjoyed the relaxed pace of our tour. Ending at the Takashimaya shopping center allowed us to continue walking and enjoying the many beautiful products offered at Takashimaya after we said goodbye to Atsu. Thank you Atsu!

Nao took me on a delightful tour of Nishi Market and Gion. Not only did she explain how history has shaped and changed the place, but she also pointed out dishes that I would have unknowingly passed by, which were truly delicious. Moreover, she has introduced me to Japanese customs and food culture. It was great fun as she also catered to my needs and helped me find items that I would have struggled to find on my own 😊

Our group of 6 had a wonderful tour of Uji on April 7! With excellent English, Terumi S. led the tour which focused on a wide variety of Matcha and Green Tea experiences. We especially liked Terumi putting tea-making in Japan in context by pointing out the differences as we went along. Even though it was raining we were able to do all of the activities indoors. I especially liked the tea ceremony where the women were in full kimono dress with Terumi translating the ritual. She went the extra mile to get us to our next appointment by riding the train with us and showing us the connection! Arigato for an exceptional tour!

These traditional Japanese sweets, deeply rooted in the country's history, offer a unique taste of Kyoto's cultural legacy. During these tours, you'll have the chance to savor and learn about the delicate art of Wagashi making, a craft that has been refined through centuries.

Wagashi often mirrors the seasons of Japan, with designs and ingredients changing to celebrate the natural world's beauty. As you walk through the charming streets of Kyoto, you can enjoy these confectioneries that not only satisfy your sweet tooth but also engage your senses with their vibrant colors and artistic presentations. A Wagashi tour introduces you to a variety of sweets, each telling its own story and offering a taste of harmony and balance that is quintessentially Japanese.

Engage with the Art of Crafting Wagashi

Embarking on a Wagashi food tour in Kyoto is more than just a treat for your palate. It is an immersive experience that allows you to engage with the traditional techniques of this ancient art. Many tours provide hands-on workshops where you can learn the intricacies of Wagashi making from experienced artisans. These workshops are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, whether you're a novice in the kitchen or an experienced cook.

You'll explore the use of classic ingredients such as sweet rice flour, red bean paste, and seasonal fruits, which are crucial to the authentic flavors of Wagashi.
