It's an exceptional opportunity for every foodie to watch, how mochi is pounding. Even more so to participate in it! We really enjoyed the interesting insights, and discovering the whole process – not to mention the unique deliciousness of the fresh mochi. We could even try four different types of it! The organisation of the whole event was very smooth: easy communication, clear itinerary, friendly and nice hosts, professional chef by the soup making (actually, it was a complete lunch), lot of further tips and informations on the traditional Japanese cuisine. Marie, our host is actually an advocate of the fermentation and traditional way of cooking ("washoku"), so she has a broader point of view on this topic. Through her experience, we could also get a deeper understanding on the usage of the ingredients and their health effects. It was a pleasure to meet her and participating on this experience. I would warmly recommend to all food lovers and enthusiasts! (The location is within reachable distance of many famous sake breweries and also not far from the Fushimi-inari shrine. So you can schedule nicely into your plans.)

A great tour with a knowledgeable guide, Brian. He’s American so obviously speaks perfect English. The walking route is beautiful and the temples are well worth the visit from Kyoto.

Experience Kyoto's Culinary Wonders in Just One Day

Kyoto, a city where tradition meets innovation, offers an exceptional culinary journey for anyone looking to experience rich Japanese flavors in a single day. Our specially curated "Kyoto 1-Day Tours" unveils the finest that this historical city has to offer in terms of food experiences. Whether you're a seasoned gastronome or simply love discovering new tastes, Kyoto promises a delightful journey through its diverse culinary landscape.

Discover Kyoto's Iconic Traditional Dishes

Starting your day in Kyoto, you'll encounter some of the city's most iconic dishes intimately tied to its cultural heritage. Begin with a traditional breakfast at a local "ryokan", where you can savor "Yudofu"—a simple yet heartwarming tofu dish that captures the essence of Kyoto's simplicity and elegance. As you wander through the bustling morning markets, sample street foods like "Nishin Soba", a harmonious blend of seasoned herring and soba noodles that exemplifies the city's connection to nature and seasonality.

Next, explore a hands-on sushi-making session with a master chef. Learn the art of sushi preparation by creating your own rolls while indulging in the freshest sashimi Kyoto has to offer. This immersive experience not only lets you enjoy these delicacies but also teaches you storytelling through food.

Refined Dining and the Art of Kaiseki

No culinary journey in Kyoto is complete without experiencing "Kaiseki", a multi-course Japanese dinner that represents the pinnacle of Kyoto's dining culture. Each dish served during a Kaiseki experience tells a story, meticulously crafted with seasonal ingredients to please both the eye and the palate. As you dine in an enchanting setting, you'll understand why Kaiseki is often equated with a form of art rather than just a meal.

For those who wish to delve deeper into Kyoto's gastronomic prowess, a visit to a tea house offers an exquisite encounter with Japan’s matcha culture. Participate in a traditional tea ceremony, where you’ll not only enjoy beautifully whisked matcha but also gain insight into the tranquil aspects of Japanese tea culture. Accompanying sweet Wagashi confections beautifully complement the bitter notes of the tea, offering a perfect balance achieved through centuries of practice.
