Experience Details
Biting into a gyoza dumpling to reveal a chewy, steamy filling is, in many ways, the epitome of comfort eating. It’s little wonder that gyoza is not only Japan’s favorite dumpling but also the world’s. In this cooking session, friendly English-speaking hosts will guide you in making authentic, delicious gyoza entirely from scratch.
Your experience will be at a restored townhouse with easy access to several attractions in Kyoto, like the Nijo Castle or the Kyoto Manga Museum. Here, your hosts will welcome you and introduce the ingredients and techniques for the day. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll make gyoza wrappers from scratch, from mixing to kneading and rolling the dough. You’ll then choose from a variety of fillings (including both meat and vegetable options) and learn pro wrapping techniques from your hosts. You’ll then fry the gyoza using professional restaurant equipment and cook your gyoza to crisp perfection.
But there’s a twist! Once your gyoza is ready, dress in samurai armor and take lots of photos with your delicious gyoza! Then, it'll finally be time to enjoy your meal with your hosts.
This experience is perfect for travelers seeking a meaningful workshop in Kyoto, combining food, Japanese culture, and sheer fun.
