Experience Details
If there’s one place in Japan that can boast vegetable fame, it’s Kyoto. But why? Find out in this unique workshop where you'll harvest vegetables alongside local farmers and make a delicious pizza from scratch topped with the vegetables you picked, only 15 minutes from Kyoto Station by train.
Your hosts will be friendly local farmers, and a translator will be there to ensure smooth communication. At the vegetable garden, they’ll guide you on how to pick up fresh produce — depending on the season, you might get your hands on eggplant, leafy greens, okra and more. Kyoto is famous for the quality of its produce, and you will get insight into the farming practices behind its famous vegetables. Don’t worry about getting dirty: shoe covers and gloves will be provided, as well as all the farm tools you’ll need to get the job done.
Next, you will make pizza from scratch, kneading the dough, adding sauce and toppings, and then baking your pizza in an outdoor brick oven. While building up an appetite, you will enjoy some of the vegetables you picked as starters, and then use the rest as toppings for the pizza.
There’s nothing like a crispy, steamy slice of pizza — except, perhaps, topping it with delicious vegetables freshly picked from the garden. Enjoy a refreshing evening in the garden and discover the rural side of Kyoto.
