Restaurant Details
It takes a bit of exploring to get to Tsuki to Suppon, although it is just three minutes away from Temma Station. Hidden in a narrow passage, and nearly impossible to find without a guide, this restaurant boasts an atmosphere of exclusivity, as only members with reservations are admitted. There is no signboard; instead, an illustration of the moon and a soft-shelled turtle tells you that you have arrived at the right destination. To gain entry, press the intercom and enter the PIN code provided with your reservation.
But for such a secretive venue, Tsuki to Suppon has garnered quite the media attention, primarily for its delectable hot pot. Its reputation-defining variation is the “gout” hot pot, packed with spiny lobster, fish liver, soft roe, oysters, and the “suppon” hot pot (soft-shelled turtle). The gout hot pot of this establishment is known for its highly nutritious properties, while the suppon hot pot lends its name to the restaurant. In addition to hot pot, a seasonal kaiseki course is also available, ready to be paired with the store’s premium alcohol collection like Dassai sake and Yamazaki whiskey.
Upon entering this restaurant, guests leave behind the hustle and bustle of Tenma Market and find themselves enveloped by tranquility in the calmness of traditional Japanese design. Visitors dine in one of the nine private rooms that have been designed based on different themes.
